Site Management Organization

A Site Management Organization (SMO) provides clinical trial related services to single or multiple clinical sites. The site may be a hospital, doctors office or similar health care institution that either owns or has has adequate infrastructure and staff to meet the requirements of the clinical trial protocol. An SMO assists sites by not only minimizing the administrative work that a site has to conduct, but also uses the fact that it manages multiple sites to potentially negotiate better agreements. The use of an SMO can help a site conduct clinical trials and focus on the medicine while leaving the administration to parties better equipped to handle such work.
